Today's Quote

April 26, 2013 - Friday
"Life isn't about getting more. It's about becoming more."
~ Tony Robbins
American self-help author and motivational speaker

It's so strange how so many of these quotes are so fitting for me, like they're sent just for me.  With a lot of changes happening at work, good changes, I'm realizing that being in the work force is about becoming someone, getting my name out there, and making an impression on the customers and people I interact with on a daily basis.  Obviously this is something I learned while serving ice cream at age 16, but it means something different 10 years later as I'm moving deeper into a sales position, a position I never saw myself falling into, but am really enjoying as I build relationships with people and "become more".

Exciting things are happening!

"To move the world we must first move ourselves."
~ Socrates (470-399 BC) Socrates was a classical Greek Athenian philosopher. Credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy

Hmmm... this seems like a fitting quote since we're closing on the house today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Puppy Love

A coworker of mine brought her tiny little dog into work today.  I'm not sure what kind of dog he is, but he's fluffy and small. For the first time, I thought differently of my dog, who I've had such a love/hate relationship with.

I thought "My big person-sized dog is pretty awesome! What's the point of this tiny little dog?".  If you know mine and Caster's relationship you may not believe I actually had that thought. Shocking, I know. Don't get me wrong, I still really love Boston terriers. They'll always have my heart.

I've grown to actually really love Caster. Sure, he can be annoying when he gets into the garbage repeatedly, but I am so in love with his cuteness. He's totally sucked me in with his adorable puppy eyes. Look at them... they're so cute!

Well John Powell said it well with this simple statement...

Colors! Colors! Colors!

How can I sit at work and be productive when I have so many decorating ideas running through my head for the house?  I want to jump out of my desk chair and run to Target, Ikea, Lowe's, Garden Ridge, Macy's, and the list goes on (anywhere that sells bright, colorful fabrics and paints).

Where does one start when you have a blank canvas?  What colors do you choose when you have a crisp white canvas to paint (in our case white with green trim...everywhere!)?  I've had several ideas just for the living and dining room... how I choose?

Thank goodness for apps on the iPad like Behr paint, Pinterest, and Words with Friends (sometimes my design brain needs a break).  Even though I'm not totally in love with Behr paint color choices, the Behr paint app is really nifty because you take a picture of anything (screenshot of cute pillows at Target, pillows I already bought from Marshalls, fabric from our existing pillows, poster from Ikea for the craft room...) and you can then select ANYTHING in the picture for it to color match with an existing Behr paint color.  Pretty cool! It has given me a lot of inspiration for paint colors! Then I take a screenshot of that color and it's complementary color palettes and I can pin it to a board on Pinterest so that I can organize all of my ideas and thoughts for each room. Cool? Yes, very cool. Oh technology!  Anything to keep me organized is cool.

(who would paint the trim green around those beautiful windows? Sorry, I'll paint you back to a crisp bright white soon!)

As we go through the process of changing the house over to our style, I'll be posting before and after pictures.  It will be really exciting to see the transformation take place in our first home!

Nobody gets everything they want!

Carrie: What makes you think something bad is gonna happen?
Charlotte: Because! Nobody gets everything they want! Look at you, look at Miranda. You're good people and you two both got shafted. I'm so happy and... something bad is going to happen.

{I feel like I've been referencing Sex in the City a lot lately. Maybe it's because I've watched it like 5 times since Christmas.} This is how I feel.  When is the storm coming? The skies have been so clear for so long, there's gotta be a storm brewing and heading straight our way.

Everything has gone so smoothly with the process of buying our house (it is so awesome to say "our" house). The negotiations went exactly how we planned, the mortgage approval was simple and super quick, the home inspection went pretty well, and now we just wait for the closing. Easy peasy! Let's just hope there's no storm heading our way!

Pride and Joy

Jordan and I have been looking forward to this time in our lives for such a long time. We've been saving and saving and saving for so long so that we could afford the house of our dreams and the time has finally come! Welcome to our house... well almost...

We're in the process of negotiating and working out the repairs needed that came up in the inspection and the closing is scheduled for a little over 40 days from now, so it's not ours just yet, but we're super excited about it! It has everything, and I mean everything, that we've wanted in a house, even a goldfish pond for our extremely fast growing goldfish, a garden so that I can grow endless amounts of zucchini and squash, and a beautiful kitchen to cook my veggies! We'll also be neighbors to our good friends! The house is perfect, we really couldn't ask for anything better and we feel so incredibly lucky! We must have some angels looking down on us <3

43 days until closing... but who's counting ;)
